A Decent All Inclusive Resort in Varadero Cuba

This top class four star all inclusive resort in Varadero Cuba is well worth investigation before you book your vacation this year

There are differing opinions about the large all inclusive resorts that seem to pepper the Cuba landscape. There seems little doubt however that the Blau Varadero Hotel has fairly unanimous approval not only from the travel industry but also the travelling population of the UK and Europe.

What is it that makes an all inclusive resort like Blau Varadero Hotel so popular, getting a huge measure of support from guests, so much so it has been voted the second most popular hotel in Cuba.

It is a large resort with over 390 rooms and suites, and is rated as a four star in quality, and there seems to be a wide disparity in how guests enjoyed their stay at the Blau Varadero Hotel.

Some folks were very critical about all aspects of the resort, and others had nothing but praise, so it is difficult to make an objective judgement. Possibly the first and very important point to remember is that Cuba is a third world country with a very run down economy, so you cannot expect standards you will find elsewhere in the Caribbean. Having said that, there are plenty of people disappointed on islands like Barbados and Antigua because they expect the same standards as you will find in London, Paris, or New York. Experienced and worldly travellers know that things are different in the Caribbean, and they are in fact very very different in Cuba.

There is also the group of people who delight in complaining, and like to see themselves in print, and equally those who are blind to obvious faults, so you need to take a position on what you read, look at the price you are going to pay, and make a realistic assessment of how it is likely to be.

The one consistent feature of all the hotels you read about in Cuba is how wonderful the staff are, and the Blau Varadero Hotel is no exception at all to this. The staff work incredibly hard, and try to please, and to ensure the guests have a good time. The rooms and maid service are exceptionally good, although the rooms themselves are quite plain, but you really only use them for sleeping. There a loads of towels and the white bed linen is always spotless.

Guests in Cuba Resorts tend to complain about the food. The buffets as is so often the case in hotels all over the world are OK. In fairness there is somehow a need to eat far more than you would do at home, and if you were to compare the choice with what you have at home, there is a lot to choose from. If you take breakfast as an example, most people have toast cereal and coffee, whereas at the Blau Varadero Hotel there are three different egg choices, bacon, pancakes, French toast, and cereals. This is a pretty good selection, and you could draw the same comparisons at lunch and dinner.

You also have an a la carte dining option, once a week at the Palma Real, and the Grill restaurant where you will get really good service, better quality wines, and the food is very well presented and good by Cuba resort standards.

The Blau Varadero Hotel is a relatively new addition to the all inclusive holidays to Cuba list. If you go prepared mentally that what is four star plus in Cuba isn’t like home, you will have a great time

Writing Travel Articles For Article Marketing

There are lots of travel website owners who write travel articles for article marketing, many of whom I believe do not give themselves the best shot at successful results. In this article I will explain why from my observations that I think some travel writers let themselves down and how I believe they can improve their results.

The Nitty Gritty

First of all article marketers submit articles to article directories as part of their website promotions – that and much of what I’m saying here applies for any niche. Ideally article marketers are working towards the following:

· Long term backlinks pointing to their sites
· Viral effect of articles being re-published on authority sites and ezines
· Click throughs on those links
· Establish themselves as an authority in their niche
· Credibility in the eyes of readers

The first 3 are about getting more traffic to your sites, the last 3 are about benefiting from the traffic. Article marketers will not benefit from their work if they produce:

· Poorly written articles
· Show a lack of first hand knowledge
· Ruin their credibility by misleading and disappointing readers

It’s all common sense but not every writer gets it. In order to explain more I will use some potential scenarios.

Information Searches

Jess and Mick have booked a cheap flight on the Internet to the Canary Islands. As they need accommodation it’s only natural that they do a search for the type of accommodation that they want. They use ‘Canary Island holiday property rentals’ in their first search and are pleased to see an article titled ‘Canary Island Holiday Property Rentals’ at the top of the search results.

Disappointment hits them when they find that the article is about the Canary Islands in general and has nothing to do with holiday property rentals except for a link in the resource box. The author has lost credibility because their title is misleading and the only links that are likely to be clicked on are the Google ads that you generally find on the article directory pages or more likely Jess and Mick click away and continue their search.

They finally find the information that they really want and accommodations sorted out they now want information about hiring a car. Their search is Canary Islands car hire, the top link is an article titled ‘Canary Islands Car Hire’. Imagine how annoyed Jess and Mick feel to find yet another general article about the Canary Islands and the only thing concerning car hire is a link in the author bio – goodbye credibility, article and click throughs!

Publisher Searches

Mathew is building a website about the Caribbean. He has some of his own material but decides to visit an article directory and find some content to help build his site faster. He finds a really great article about visiting Jamaica and would love to use it but the title ‘Cheap Flights To The Caribbean’ is a problem. Yes you’ve guessed right – the only reference to cheap flights is in the author bio. Mathew decides against using the article on his website because he has ethics and does not want to mislead his site visitors.

He then spots an article titled ‘Fabulous Jamaica Resort Review’. Mathew expects a genuine review from somebody who has visited the resort, but he doesn’t get that. Instead there is a brochure like article extolling the virtues of a hotel or all inclusive resort that just happens to be linked to in the author bio – and an article that shows no indication of the author ever setting foot on the beautiful island of Jamaica. There is also a sentence recommending a website for more information within the article body and that website just happens to belong to the author – goodbye credibility.

Reality Check

With these scenarios the authors have thought that they were being clever and used the best keywords and phrases in the titles for what they are promoting in the author bio. Fair enough if the article content matches the titles and key phrases – shooting yourself in the foot article marketing if it doesn’t.

If you promise a review of a resort you should deliver just that and not something that can be found on any travel brochure or travel site. A review should be an author’s opinion written from experience and nothing less. Recommending your own websites in the article body not only spoils an article but is also a credibility hit.

If your misleading article is accepted on article directories do you want to benefit from the viral effect of your article being published on other websites and ezines? Would you want content on your website or ezine that is misleading or pure unpaid for advertising? I know that I wouldn’t. I really enjoy reading good travel articles and reviews, but often find them disappointing for the reasons that I’ve outlined.

Any good and ethical sales person, and that includes Internet marketers know that to do well you need to build up trust with your prospective customers. You want your articles to work for you so start thinking about them from the point of view of a reader or publisher and you won’t go far wrong.

The travel niche is huge and nowadays many travellers search the Internet for information before they book their dream holidays. The majority of travellers know nothing about Internet marketing, article marketing or key phrases. All they know is what they see – that they are being misled. Would you click on a link and buy from an author or seller who is misleading you?

Wedding Save the Date Cards – Top 7 Reasons to Send Them and When You Shouldn’t

Wedding save the date cards have become fashionable in recent years. Many modern couples are choosing to send save the date announcements and their popularity continues to grow. But should you consider sending save the date cards for your wedding? Here are the top seven reasons that save the date cards might be the right choice for you.

1. You’re planning to invite a lot of guests from out of town. If you have friends and loved ones spread out across the country or even the world, a save the date card gives them extra time to make travel arrangements. By sending out save the date announcements 6 – 12 months before the wedding, those far away guests will have the opportunity to book flights and hotels at better rates.

2. You’re having a destination wedding. There is a growing trend to choose fun and exotic locales for a wedding, such as Hawaii, the Caribbean or Las Vegas. If you’ve decided on a destination wedding and are hoping your invited guests will be able to come along, it’s a good idea to give them as much time as possible to plan. Sending save the date cards will give them the chance to schedule vacation time and make travel arrangements.

3. You’ve set your wedding date around the holidays or typical peak summer vacation time. If the date you’ve selected is around Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, even Columbus Day weekend, your guests may make other plans unless you alert them well in advance with a save the date card. Let people know your wedding date before they make vacation plans, and you have a better chance they will attend.

4. You’re seriously hoping that most of the people you invite to your wedding will attend. Even if your wedding will be in your hometown, with mostly local people invited, on a day that shouldn’t conflict with holidays or vacations, save the date cards can help you achieve more positive RSVPs to your wedding invitation. People have increasingly busy lives and are always making plans. Since your actual wedding invitation will only go out 6 – 12 weeks before the big day, your potential guests may have already made plans by the time they receive it. If they know in advance the date for your wedding, they won’t schedule anything else that day.

5. You’re just so excited that you’ve set the date that you can’t keep the news to yourself. Save the date cards can double as engagement announcements, letting people know that you’re engaged and have set the date for your wedding.

6. You want to show off your fiance’ to all your friends and relatives who have never met him. You can send photo save the date cards and everyone can see the love and happiness on your faces. In fact, the latest trend in photo cards is to include multiple photos on your save the dates, so you don’t have to settle on just one picture.

7. They’re fun! There are no rules and no etiquette, so your save the date cards can be unique and imaginative. They can reflect your personalities, hobbies, time of year you plan to get married, wedding destination, bold colors or just about anything you like. There are scratch-off save the date cards and save the date magnets. It’s your chance to grab everyone’s attention.

So with all these great reasons to send wedding save the date cards, is there any reason you shouldn’t? Well, because save the date cards are an optional gesture, you don’t have to send them if your budget is extremely tight. This is not an absolutely necessary expense, if you’re strapped for cash. No one will get mad at you or feel slighted if you decide you can’t afford to send them.

But for everyone else, save the date wedding cards are a fun way to share your happy news. If you want to guarantee that your guests will mark their calendars and save the date for your wedding, nothing works as well as save the date cards.

P and O Cruise Destinations

P & O Cruise is Britain’s favourite cruise line. If you are cruising from the UK, you will have to board the ship at Southampton. This is because Southampton provides the best access from all over UK. The check in will be fast and easy. You will not miss any flights and there are no baggage restrictions, so you can totally enjoy your holiday, worry-free.

P & O Cruise offers hundreds of cruises every year, to many destinations around the world. You could take a cruise from Southampton and stop at Bruges before going back to Southampton again. This is a shorter cruise compared to some of the others on offer. If you would prefer to go for a longer cruise, perhaps you can choose those that offer more destinations.

For example, you can depart from Southampton and stop at Gibraltar before moving on to Cartagena, Rome, Santa Margherita, Florence and even Barcelona. After that you will go back to Southampton, where you will end your cruise. Of course, there are many other destinations available.

You can visit the Caribbean islands, such as Dominica, Jamaica, Antigua, Grenada and even Barbados. The Caribbean is known as the most popular holiday destination during summer, especially by Europeans. The Caribbean is a paradise where you get to have a relaxing holiday on the beaches, or visiting the traditional buildings and historical sites. You get to shop for whatever you want, as everything here is unique and some items might be cheaper than you can get back home.

However, if you prefer to visit Africa, you can stop by Cape Town, Durban and Richards Bay. Africa is for the adventurer. This is because you will be travelling to the savannah, which has many attractions to be explored. There is a surprise everywhere you go in Africa. If you think that you are up for the challenge to tour Africa on a cruise, then book it! Africa has the most spectacular view on Earth, and it is a dream-come-true to be visiting such a wonderful destination.

Still, there are many other regions that you can travel to while on a cruise. You might prefer to go to Asia for a nice summer holiday. Asia is about spices and the orient. Travel to anywhere in Asia and you are not spared from the delicious cuisine. You will experience first hand the culture and lifestyle of the Asians. You can visit Japan, Thailand and even Singapore. The experience is magnificent.

If you like to enjoy holidays on an island, Canary Island is waiting for you. Canary Island has beautiful shores for you to hang out with your friends and family, beautiful scenery where you can even partake in bird watching, and the breeze is calm and peaceful. This is the right place to let go of your pressures and start living your life with peace and Zen. Going on a cruise may cost you a little more money than going on a ‘normal’ holiday trip, but I can assure you it is worth it.

Ten Bewitching Places for Twitchers

There are over 10,000 species of birds in the world, including 1,000 in Europe, 2000 in North and Central America and the Caribbean, 2,900 in Asia, 2,300 in Africa and more than 3,200 species in the richest region of all, South America.

Try as you may, you’ll never be able to see more than a tiny fraction of this number. But, if you are willing to go a little off the beaten track, the effort to see that tiny fraction will be rewarded over and over.

In Europe

In Europe, the best place for birds is undoubtedly the Danube delta, where the river splits into numerous channels before entering the Black Sea. The Danube Delta Biospheres Reserve in Romania is 580,000 hectares of pure heaven for birdwatchers and is the largest reed surface in the world, interrupted by lakes and channels. Here you will find Europe’s largest colony of pelicans, as well as herons, ibis, warblers, and ducks in their thousands. To see the birds at close range you need to get out on the water – a boat is also the only way to reach the Monastery of St Atanasie, where the monks live in wooden houses and live almost entirely off their own produce.

South of the delta is a reserve where you can see from the roadside thousands of water birds including 60 species of waders, terns, ducks, gulls, geese, cormorants, pelicans, herons and egrets. Piatra Craiului and Retezat mountains and the large Bicaz Gorges are large areas still untouched by human influence, offering spectacular birding.

On a comparatively tiny scale is the Oasi di Sant-Alessio, near Pavia, in northern Italy, a privileged habitat for birds, set in the grounds of one of the oldest castles in Europe. Covering only ten hectares, this spot in the Po valley counts kingfisher, stork, heron, ibis and cormorant among its delights. It also raises birds from endangered species and releases them into the wild. It is thought that nearly all storks in the southern Lombardy and southeaster Piedmont regions of Italy are direct descendants of those raised at the Oasi in the late 1970s.

In India

India may not be the first place you’d think of for birdwatching, unless you’re a dedicated old hand and you know that it has 2,060 species of birds, in addition to its thousands of species of mammals, reptiles and insects. India has 11 national parks and 135 wildlife sanctuaries.

Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary (near Alwar, Rajasthan) is part of Project Tiger. Its rich avifauna includes more than 200 species of birds, among them the babbler (common, jungle & large grey), black-/red-headed bunting, little brown dove, crested serpent eagle, pale harrier and dozens more.

Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary (in Rajasthan, 176 km from Delhi), better known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, is regarded as the best bird marsh in the world, comprising 29 square km of marsh, woodland and scrub. Here you will find 330 species of both nesting indigenous and migratory water birds inhabiting or visiting this big, shallow lake. The Sanctuary is the wintering ground for about 52 of the 350 Siberian cranes left in the world.

Corbett (near Ramnagar, about 270 km from Delhi) is another great bird park, with over 600 species/subspecies of birds, more than the total number of bird species found in Europe. Of the 69 species of raptors found in India, 49 can be seen in Corbett. Bird diversity is at its peak in winter, when the keenest European birdwatchers visit. With luck and a keen eye, you may also spot rarer species such as oriental white-eye, jungle owlet, Himalayan swiftlet, lesser fish eagle or even the stork-billed kingfisher. Birds are not the end of the story here: the park hosts tiger, Indian elephant, chital, sambhar, muntjack (barking deer), hog deer and the common langur. The historic and heritage cities of Jaipur and Agra are near by.

In South And Central America

Another glorious attraction for twitchers is Crooked Tree Sanctuary in Belize (on the west side of the Northern Highway at Mile 33), featuring 276 species of waterfowl, as well as Morelet’s crocodile, black bowler monkeys and otters and all Belize’s species of freshwater turtle. This mosaic of lagoons is partly surrounded by the largest continuous stand of logwood trees remaining in the country. Especially in the dry season, which peaks in April, double-crested cormorants, egrets, herons and various ducks can be seen. In November the jabiru stork, the largest bird in the Americas, may arrive to build stick nesting platforms and raise its young by June. Crooked Tree also hosts the peregrine, the world’s fastest falcon, which is powerful enough to grab an adult coot right out of the water. The Sanctuary is open every day.

In The Rest Of Europe

Extremadura in Spain is a vast area of grass- and woodland. The Spanish imperial eagle is endemic here and there are other raptors galore, including black, griffon and Egyptian vultures.

Isle of Mull, Scotland, is an ideal place for viewing the white-tailed sea eagle and the golden eagle, as well as colonies of puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills and storm petrels. You are almost bound to see also otters, seals, dolphins and whales.

Hortobagy, a national park in Hungary, is a patchwork of marshes farms and fishponds, famous for its 70,000 common cranes and migratory geese. You may also catch sight of the rare great bustard and red-footed falcon.

Lesbos, Greece, is the best place of all to watch the migration, between late April and early May, of bee-eaters, hoopoes, rollers and other birds flying in from Africa, pursued by impressive numbers of raptors.

To find the best birdwatching holidays look for the UK-based operator AwimAway (020 7430 1766, www.awimaway.com) that offers experiential holidays including birdwatching holidays around the world, customised to suit your desires and your budget.

Newquay Holidays For Grown Ups – A Brief Guide

Newquay on Cornwall’s wild and beautiful north coast is a wonderfully romantic holiday destination and you certainly don’t need to be a surf bunny or sandcastle builder to enjoy the many wonderful attractions this area has to offer.

However, if you do have a hankering for riding the Atlantic rollers, then what better place to learn the art of surfing the waves? Newquay is the home of the National Surfing Centre, one of Britain’s top surfing schools. They have surf schools on North Fistral Beach and at Lusty Glaze beach a little further around the bay. They offer a wide range of courses including half-day taster sessions, perfect for seeing whether there’s a ‘surf dude’ within you. Who knows – you may well get hooked!

Fistral beach is also home to Newquay’s latest chill-out zone – the Fistral Spa, located within The Bay Hotel. With nine individual treatment rooms, a spacious relaxation room, indoor heated swimming pool, fitness suite, the spa bath, steam room and sauna, you can ensure you’ll be leaving this part of Fistral beach in a totally blissed-out state.

The warming kiss of the Gulf Stream that brushes the coastline here means that Cornish gardens are home to a wealth of rare and beautiful plants, many collected by the great Victorian plant hunters on their worldwide expeditions. Tresslick Gardens has a superb collection of tender exotics, including the national collection of Photinias and Azaras. Other exotica can be found within the two giant dome shaped biomes at the Eden Project at St Austell, a glorious global garden that will inspire every horticulturalist. Closer to Newquay is the Japanese Garden and Bonsai Nursery, an authentic Japanese garden with many traditional features.

A Newquay holiday is ideal for walkers, as Newquay provides easy access to the South West Coast Path, which snakes around the coastline. At the nearby Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps you can descend the cliff staircase to the beach below, and there’s a spectacular coastal walk with breathtaking views between Carnewas and Park Head. There are also a number of fine links golf courses in the area including Newquay Golf Course, Holywell Bay Golf Course and Treloy Golf Course.

History fans will enjoy a hidden gem tucked away in the Cornish countryside, just three miles from Newquay. Trerice is an Elizabethan manor house, famous for its ‘barrel-roofed’ Great Chamber, pretty flower gardens, old Cornish apple orchard and unique lawnmower collection. Other attractions worth visiting on a Newquay holiday include the Blue Reef Aquarium with its wide range of residents from the Cornish Coast to the Caribbean, and Newquay Zoo, set in 10 acres of exotic lakeside gardens.

After a packed day what better way to relax than with a glass of wine and a plate of delicious locally sourced food at one of Newquay’s many fabulous restaurants? The New Harbour Restaurant serves sizzling fresh seafood landed that day, whilst those after some truly pukka grub will enjoy Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fifteen Cornwall’ on Watergate Bay. The nearby Beach Hut, a simple bistro on the beach, enjoys glorious sunsets and according to the surfing crowd serves the best hot chocolate in the bay. For something special, Lewinnick Lodge on the Pentire headland with its stunning views across the Atlantic and a Mediterranean inspired menu, is the ideal venue for a memorable Newquay holiday dinner.

Where are You Going for Your Christmas Break?

Traditionally Christmas is seen as a time to spend with the family. However, more and more people prefer not to spend Christmas at home. There is no shortage of options for the Christmas break. It is important to plan your Christmas holiday in advance so that you are not disappointed. First you need to decide what sort of holiday you want. Are you looking for a traditional Christmas or do you want to experience something completely new? Do you want to go somewhere that is cold and where snow is likely? Or do you long for some warm weather as a complete contrast to the British winter? Do you want a holiday with plenty of activities or are you looking for a relaxing quiet time away from the bustle of the city?

Many hotels in the UK offer Christmas breaks, ranging from relatively cheap to very expensive. Rooms in hotels in Wales and Bath can be booked for as little as £45.00 per person per night. Alternatively if you want to spoil yourself then you can travel to the Scilly Isles and enjoy champagne, boat trips, helicopter transfers from Cornwall and gourmet meals. For those seeking some peace and quiet during the holiday season, Skye may be just the place. You can stay in a lodge in a quiet corner of Skye and enjoy the food and walks around the lochs. Devon offers everything from thatched cottages with real wood fires and inglenook fireplaces, to olde-world country inns, to 4-star hotels. Whether you want the bright lights of London or the quiet of the Cornish countryside there will be something for you. Check around mid-December as often this is when hotels begin to offer room deals.

Christmas holidays abroad are becoming more popular for those who want to escape the commercialisation of Christmas or just the British weather. A wide range of trips is available from stays in an Austrian castle to beach holidays.
A number of travel companies offer tours that depart during the Christmas period. You can spend a leisurely week in Andalucia, enjoying the local cuisine and Moorish architecture or tour through Northern India, visiting the magnificent Taj Mahal, the Pink city of Jaipur and the Ranthambore National Park. Perhaps one of the most beautiful places to spend Christmas is in Lapland. Many holidays feature Lappish traditions and luxury cabins with Christmas trees. They also include champagne breakfasts, traditional Finnish Christmas Eve dinner and a reindeer, husky or snowmobile safari. Of course no trip to Lapland would be complete without a visit to Santa Claus. If you are looking for something truly unusual then why not try an igloo in Finland? You can stay in a snow or glass igloo and enjoy a spectacular view of the northern lights, go on a reindeer or husky safari and learn how to ice fish. Guests can also visit the snow restaurant, the ice bar and the Ice gallery that features some amazing ice sculptures. If you are travelling to a city and want to combine your Christmas trip with sight-seeing you should check in advance which attractions will be open during the Christmas period.

If you would prefer to travel to somewhere warm for Christmas there are plenty of options. You can choose a luxurious hotel in the Caribbean or try somewhere a bit different such as Cuba or Costa Rica. Other great destinations for the Christmas holiday period are South Africa, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, the Maldives, Thailand and Malaysia. It is best to book early and it is cheaper if you can depart before December 20-21. You don’t just have to consider countries that are predominantly Christian; the Red Sea Coast is another good destination although you need to book before the end of October. In fact the Muslim countries of the Middle East are becoming more popular with British travellers wanting to escape the excesses of Christmas at home. Some of the most popular destinations are Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Dubai and Oman. Turkey and Jordan are also rising in popularity.

For those who want a more active holiday, skiing is a good choice. Again if you are considering a Christmas break in the Alps then you need to book sometime in September or October. Once the first snow starts to fall in November availability will fall rapidly. This is especially true if you have children. For the more adventurous, there is ski-sailing in Norway, a snowmobile safari in Canada and much more.

But also take time to visit some of the many temples and hear the ringing of the bells.

Destination 8 – A place that really knows how to celebrate Christmas is Germany and in the weeks leading up to the festive season all the major towns and cities will have Christmas Markets in place. Here you can wonder around the stalls looking at many local arts and crafts along with having the chance to drink some warm Gluwein and try some of the local delicacies.

Destination 9 – If you are looking for somewhere magical to spend this Christmas then consider going to Austria. Throughout the month of December, towns and cities become winter wonderlands and at their Christmas markets you have the opportunity to try some of their special Christmas cookies.

Destination 10 – If you have young children then it is worth heading off to Finland for Christmas as this where Santa Clause resides. Along with having the opportunity to enjoy a truly white Christmas your child will actually be presented with a gift from Santa himself. Holiday Decoration Tips

With the holidays in full swing, you probably want your house to look festive in celebration of the season. However, if you do not consider yourself artistic or creative, it can be a challenge to really create that special look. From the tree to your bathroom and beyond, here are some holiday decoration tips that can make your home look perfect for Christmas.

Tip #1: Stick to a theme in your home.

Some people like to change the theme from room to room, but at the very least, coordinate your decorations in the house to keep things looking pulled together, not random and cheap. “Christmas” is to general a theme. Instead, think in terms of color (perhaps you may decorate using gold, for example) or location (how would a German Christmas house look as compared to a Caribbean Christmas?) or even character (snowmen and Santa are popular, but you can also go with Rudolf, Jack from the Nightmare before Christmas, or other specific characters). Your theme can also revolve around something that is not traditionally Christmas-y. For example, if you like a certain sports team, you can find ornaments that celebrate this team and use Christmas garland and other decorations in your team’s colors.

Tip #2: Use glass vases filled with Christmas items.

No matter what the overall theme or mood, you can use glass vases (and other glass containers) in a variety of shapes and sizes to enhance the look of your Christmas décor. Fill them with chestnuts and berries for a natural winter look, Christmas candy or jellybeans if you want something whimsical, or simply ball ornaments in whatever color works for you.

Tip #3: Use posters in the windows of your home.

Translucent window posters are beautiful for the holiday season. These window clings reflect the sun during the day, and at night, your lights will make them glow to everyone outside. Window posters come in a variety of designs, including the fanciful Santa or the more formal Christmas tree. If you are not interested in a window poster, think about your window decorations in a more traditional way. Hang garland and lights, and put your tree by a window so that those outside can see it lit up in the evenings.

Tip #4: Do not forget the scent of your home.

While you may just be concentrating on decorations you can see, much of the mood of a room comes from what we smell. Think about your feelings as you walk into your house, and someone has been baking cookies! For a holiday scent, try a scented candle or tart warmer, or look for an oil diffuser. Pick winter scents, like gingerbread, spice, and peppermint to compliment your home. Make sure you especially use scents in places that typically need air fresheners, like your entry way and bathroom.

Tip #5: Go green for Christmas!

Your Christmas decorations do not have to be bad for the environment. Consider purchasing Christmas lights that are recharged during the day by sunlight. These solar lights will last a few hours into the night and do not suck electricity like normal Christmas lights. You also don’t have to worry about turning them on or off at night. In addition to solar-powered Christmas lights; think about ways that you can turn other items into a Christmas ornament. For example, you can use old Christmas cards to create ornaments for your tree.

Tip #6: Use lights.

Even if you are not creative, you can make a big statement using lights in your home. They are not just for the tree! String Christmas lights around the room at the ceiling, twist them around banisters leading upstairs, or even use them to frame windows. White lights can actually be kept up year-round or at least through the winter. You can also find lighted curtains, mantel scarves, and so forth to decorate your home.

Tip #7: Play Christmas music.

Just like certain scents, sounds can also enhance your decorations. Find some CDs filled with your favorite Christmas music, or fill your iPod with Christmas songs. You can play these songs on loop during a party or while entertaining a few guest. You can also play these songs while you are baking Christmas cookies, decorating the tree, doing housework, or just enjoying a quiet evening at home with your family or by yourself. It can really help you get into the holiday spirit.

The bottom line is that you do not have be super creative or spend a lot of money to make your house look beautiful for the holidays. Just a few simple touches can really make your home beautiful for the winter season. In just one afternoon, you can transform your house to a beautiful holiday wonderland. Next time you begin decorating for the holidays, you should consider these tips.
